Traveling with the Nuvi 350
Review created: 01/05/08 by: !tigger
First
off, I did not buy the device, my son bought if for me for fathers day
in 07. I had seen them and thought why waste the money, maps at
airports are free and the hotels usually give pretty good directions,
and I had never been seriously lost anywhere. As it stands now, if this one dies, I will have it replaced in a day and this is why. since owning the 350 I have been to North Dakota, Wyoming, California, Florida, New Hampshire, Maine, Alaska, Massachusetts, Vancouver BC, New Mexico, Utah, Nevada and Arizona. It is not so much that it works, but how well it works. I have used it walking in cities allover, and for locating my car in a parking lot, and to give directions to a cab driver. I have located places which did not have an address by entering the lat long of the location and it has given me the closest road to the site. I have found places by panning the screen, and I was very surprised to find that it included at least some forest service roads, or it showed the one I was on and provided me an alternate route to the one I had come up on. The defining moment when I decided that I would not be without one again was in driving from Laramie to Cheyenne. I found a Mexican food place in Laramie that was very good, the Garmin also provided the phone number which I used, a. to make sure the place is still open and to check menus, b. No point in eating at a place that can't pronounce the menu right, or find out it is an in and out when you wanted a meal. When I got to Cheyenne it was about 10:30 at night and so foggy you could not see the line between the lanes until it was there. At the 80 25 interchange the fog was so dense you could not see the bridge or the lights, everything just glowed. I expanded the map on the Garmin nearly as far as I could and used it to catch the right exit, I hoped. I was only doing about 10, but you simply could not see anything until you were about to hit it, like guard rails. I didn't know that I had followed correctly until it got dark again as I moved away from the lights. I was never so glad to get to a hotel, again I just followed the Garmin, I could not read the street signs without getting out of the car. With my unfamiliarity of the area and a map being of no use if you can't see the signs, the only way I got to bed that night was due to a device I would not have bought. |
It's easy for everyone.

Garmin
has proved itself to be one of the best GPS makers in the industry. I
choose this particular model after reviewing several of the other
competitors available:TOMTOM, Magellan ect.) For the price,
reliability, accuracy, ease of use and portability; I decided on this
model. The 350 is small enough to take anywhere, it has more than
enough bells and whistles(mp3 player, currency, audio books, ect.) It
also pronounces street names instead of just saying "turn Right"...it
says "turn right on Main St." great feature especially at night. Touch
screen is easy, battery lasts a long time, acquires satelites quickly
on start up. I've only found a minor issue that seemed odd to me with
Garmin GPS. For some reason, their keyboard layout for punching in
names is done as abcdefg...fashion NOT "qwerty". It's not a big deal,
but with all the PDA's and cell phones that are qwerty keyboards today,
I can't see why Garmin would go with straight alphabet leters. Overall
great product, even better at $250 sale price (11/2007). Buy one and
never get lost again! |
A very good buy- 2008 maps

The
nuvi 650 is a great GPS unit. It has a detailed map and is much more
accurate than 2007 editions. This unit allows you to program parameters
for navigation such as if you drive a truck or car, bus, motorcycle or
bicycle. The routing takes into account truck routes, fastest route,
shortest route, and allows you to program in avoidances such as
u-turns, toll roads, ferries, dirt roads, etc. Routing announces
upcoming turns and the turn itself. Embedded into the unit is an
extensive restruant, gas, attraction, and point of interest guide.
Traffic info can be added to the unit for a price. It has an MP3
player, picture viewer, and many more extras. Definitly worth the
investment. |
Garmin GPS
Review created: 12/05/07 by: arlenehyman
It
started as my toy, however, I like using this product. I can't compare
this with other similiar products but it is very user friendly
(especially for one that has no time to read the instruction book). I
did purchase a second window suction cup and plug in for my other car
to facilitate using this without any moving of attachments. I do recommend this Garmin 350 GPS. |
Garmin stands for quality

It's
a good product...However some difficulties tracking the satellites from
inside a building. Also digital keypads are arranged in alphabetic
order not in the usual setting of most computer keypads, which makes
typing on it kinnda awkward and difficult. Also battery is not holding
on for as long as indicated in the specifications. |
I have one and the one I bought is a present for my Dau

The Nuvi 350 is all you need...
Review created: 12/04/07 by: mw177604
The
Nuvi 350 is all you need when it comes to portable navigation. The
screen is plenty big, tells you street names, and is easy to use.
Unless you NEED to have music and all of the other bells and whistles
(not to mention a big difference in price) on your nav unit I would
recommend the Nuvi 350. |
